Explore the wonder of watercolor painting by learning fundamentals and techniques of this exciting medium. This course is intended for the novice to beginner; you do not need prior experience to enroll in this class. There will be a set curriculum to help you understand and feel comfortable as you discover your artistic journey using watercolors. This 5 session course will begin with a few painting exercises and finish with two completed paintings. Supply list can be found here. Course Objective: Plan to experiment and explore the traditional water color painting techniques – In this case we will be studying the personality of watercolor. What makes the watercolor do what it wants to do? This class is for the first time painter or someone who has tried watercolor before but would like to get a better understanding of how it works. Our goal is to have at least one excellent painting by the end of the session. Plan to have group critiques and discussions throughout the session. Please come prepared to discuss: Your level of experience: Novice, Beginner, etc., what art is for you, what makes a good painting, why you want to be a painter, your interest, hobbies, and just all around conversations. Our first day: We will have brief introductions to include: a discussion about the questions above, why is it called watercolor and not colored water? Getting ready to paint, and dabbling in a few watercolor painting exercises. Please bring materials with you as stated above in the supply list.

This class is an extension of Beginning Watercolor I. In this class you will continue with beginning watercolor exercises that were learned in the Beginning I class. You can expect to complete 3-4 paintings. This class is open to any student that has taken the first beginning class from me and anyone who has a basic/general knowledge of watercolor painting. Supply list can be found here. Course Objective: Plan to experiment and explore the next level of traditional water color painting techniques – In this cases we will be continuing with the lessons from Beginning I class. This class is meant for those who have experience in watercolor painting. Our goal is to have at least 3 excellent paintings by the end of the session. Plan to have at least one group critique about mid way through the session. Please come prepared to discuss: what art is for you, what makes a good painting, why you want to be a painter, your interest, hobbies, and just all around conversations. Our first day: We will have brief introductions to include a discussion about our artistic styles. We will discuss what subjects we would like to paint, what specific painting style you would like to explore and other great insights that may arise.

Build on your sewing skills and learn how to read and use a pattern to create a garment of your choice in class. Classes consist of group instruction and demonstrations to further explore terms, techniques, and materials as well as time to work on your own project with instructor guidance. Week 1, bring sewing machine and basic supplies.Week 2, students will meet at a local fabric store. Week 3-6, bring sewing machine, supplies, and project materials. Students should be comfortable threading and using their sewing machine. *Under age 18 must be enrolled with an adult. Supplies Needed: sewing machine in good working order with bobbins and needles scissors tape measure pins ruler/ seam gauge seam ripper fabric marking pen or pencil project materials - please budget $25-$50 for pattern, fabric, and notions for your class project. Cost will vary with project choice.

Learn the basics of creating handbuilt pottery. This class is designed for the beginners as well as individuals who which to continue developing their skills. Each class will include a demonstration and independent work time. The instructor will assist you in developing basic hand building skills as well as advanced techniques. Participants will learn how to create slab forms, pinch pots, coil pots, and more. This is a great class to learn at your own pace and have fun. Supply fee of $20 payable to the instructor.

Learn how to thread your sewing machine, how to read a pattern, sewing terms and equipment, and basic sewing techniques to sew a tote bag in class. Perfect for those with little or no sewing experience. $10 supply fee payable to the instructor. *Under age 18 must be enrolled with an adult. Realize your true artistic abilities by learning how to create linocuts. With all forms of printmaking, it’s easy to print one image multiple times, with each print varying just slightly in appearance. By caving images into a linoleum block, you will carve out your place in the world of printmaking, rising to the ranks of other great print artists.

Taking inspiration from the natural surroundings or images of plants and wildlife, participants will create their own 3D wire form by bending and shaping metal wire. Finished projects will consist of 3D shaped wire mounted on a base, culminating in a uniquely organic sculpture you will be proud to share with your family and friends.

Origami is a popular art of folding paper in Asia, especially in Japan and China. This fun activity is a great way to express your creativity all while improving your hand and brain coordination. Come join us to relax and socialize with this Asian art!

Every year the Minnesota State Fair showcases seed mosaics created by artists all over the state. In our seed mosaic workshop, participants will continue this great tradition by creating their own works of seed art. Participants will learn about the history and techniques of mosaic art and create a design of their own. Once completed, participants will share their designs with their fellow seed artists and share this Minnesotan art form with their family and friends!

We’ll demystify knits and eliminate frustrations and sew a garment of your choice in class that you’ll wear with pride. Students should be comfortable with machine sewing and familiar working with and reading patterns. Week 1, bring sewing machine and basic supplies. Week 2-6, bring sewing machine, supplies, and project materials. If you have some experience with watercolor, join this class to develop your skills. Please note that this is not a beginner class. Some skills you should have before taking this class are knowing the wetness and dryness of the media, how to mix basic colors, and understanding basic perspective principals. You will learn techniques, see demonstrations, receive guided instruction, and participate in a class critique. Each week we will work on a different topic. Purchase a copy of John Shaw and Ferdinand Petrie's "The Big Book of Painting Nature in Watercolor" prior to class. Materials Needed: Pad of 140 lb watercolor paper 11x15 (this can be Strathmore or Arches - avoid Canson paper - do not get a block of paper, this is too expensive) Board to put them on 1 multi-compartment palette or tray 1 roll of better quality paper towels 1 #2 pencil 1 art gum eraser 1 roll of masking tape 1 bottle mask-off any color 1 lightweight pair of scissors 1 ruler at least 18 inches long Graphite copy paper 1 set of good quality tube-style watercolors. Set should include a crimson red (naphthol or alizarin), cadmium red light, ultramarine, cadmium yellow, lemon yellow, raw sienna, purple or violet, sap green or olive green, payne's grey, and cerulean blue. Some colors may need to be purchased separately. Brushes - Size 10 and 12 round brush, 1 flat brush size 1/4" or 1/2" wide, and 1 large brush 3/4" or wider A cup for water Optional: a small misting bottle (an old hairspray bottle works well)
